Our Beth Israel movie night features West of Hester Street, a documentary about the history of Jewish immigrants to Galveston. With great humor and warmth, the film dramatizes the efforts of American Jewish leaders between 1881 and 1914 to settle new immigrants where there were jobs - the unlikely port of Galveston, Texas. Woven through the resettlement narrative is the story of a young Jewish peddler who is forced to adjust to a strange way of life. Presented by the Adult Education Committee and featuring a special presentation by Barbra Rosenberg of the Texas Jewish Historical Society.
