This series is led by:
Manizeh Mirza-Gruber, MD, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher
Thomas Cole, PhD, Director of the Center for Spiritual Direction
Jewish mindfulness is a spiritual practice that integrates traditional teachings with techniques to cultivate awareness, presence, and connection with the divine. This four-week introduction will share the foundations of mindfulness using both didactic and experiential practices. No prior experience of meditation or mindfulness is needed. The invitation is to come as you are—to learn, share, and be in community while we gather to cultivate and deepen our sense of being present in the moment.
Session 1: A brief overview of Jewish mindfulness and its connection with meditation, with focus on mindfulness of breath and body
Session 2: Mindfulness of emotions
Session 3: Mindfulness of thoughts
Session 4: Bringing in the practice of mindfulness and meditation into our daily lives
Each session will include:
- A short, guided meditation to land and arrive in the moment as we begin our session
- A longer guided meditation to bring awareness to the breath, body, emotions, thoughts (topic of the week)
- Didactic teaching/talk sharing mindfulness of breath and body, mindfulness of emotions, mindfulness of thoughts, and mindfulness as a daily practice
- Mindful movement (optional)
- Inspirational poems and quotes
- Time for sharing and questions/answers
Each session will guide participants in how they can practice on their own so they may experience in the benefits of meditation and mindfulness.
This series is in-person only. Participants should park and enter by the Administrative Offices/Gift Shop.
