Yom Kippur Study Sessions

Saturday, October 12, 2024 10 Tishrei 5785

10:30 AM - 11:15 AMCongregation Beth Israel

On Yom Kippur, two study sessions will be offered at 10:30 AM:

Teshuvah: The Joy of Coming Home
Led by Dr. Tom Cole, Director of Center for Spiritual Direction
Location: The Margolis Gallery

On Yom Kippur, we are expected to turn, to repent, to come home to our best selves. This session frames “Teshuvah” as a sanctuary that allows us to arrive at the joy of coming home. First, we will personally explore times in the past year when we were not at our best. Then, we will find and share ways to return to the goodness, generosity, and love that God sends and intends for us.

Is It Always Possible To Forgive?
Led by David Scott, RJE, Director of Lifelong Learning & Engagement
Location: Finger Board Room

On our holiest day, we will explore together the reasons why it is so hard to forgive others and especially ourselves. The concept of forgiveness has been challenging to so many generations past, and we will delve into rabbinic literature to learn more about how we can be more forgiving. As we discuss and learn how our ancient rabbis imagined God’s forgiveness, we will hopefully come to new understandings about what forgiveness means for us today.
